image Sri Lanka was not prepared to be duped by international community says Prime Minister Mr. Ratnasiri Wickremanayake. At every ceasefire period the tigers got themselves strengthened and they ask for a ceasefire for that purpose said Mr. Wickremanayake. Now the international community has come forward to dupe us again expecting us to agree for a ceasefire said the Prime Minister.

Addressing a ceremony held at ‘Savsiripaya’ Mr. Wickremanayake said Tigers must lay down their arms to begin talks. “I won’t use the word ‘peace’ here. Talks will be held. Meanwhile steps necessary for national security too will be taken.

No one can issue statements on behalf of Sri Lanka. They have not been given that authority. How do they know whether we are willing for talks or not? There is a government elected by the people in this country. This is a sovereign state. It is the Government that should decide whether there would be talks or not.

Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and all should be defended. This struggle is not only to liberate the country. It is also to liberate the Tamil people who are being deprived of their rights by the terrorists,” said Mr. Wickremanayake.
