image Relief assistance to flood victims in the Ampara district has been intensified.
The Ministry of Disaster Management says relief activities are being carried out successfully with the support of government and non-governmental organizations in the area.
Funds have been released to the district secretary of Ampara to facilitate the relief process. Several roads in the district are impassable due to heavy rains experienced in last few days.
The disaster management center says floods have affected over 63 thousand families in the area. 13 thousand families have been displaced due to floods.
Meanwhile, the Met Department says disturbances in the skies above the area are gradually easing.  The department, however, said a gloomy weather condition will prevail in the district.
