Alok Prasad new Indian HC

India’s High Commissioner to Singapore Alok Prasad is tipped to be the new High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.India on Tuesday informed Sri Lanka of its intention to appoint Alok Prasad as the new envoy to Sri Lanka. High commissioner Prasad is one year junior in the Indian Foreign Service to outgoing Indian High Commissioner Nirupama Rao.High Commissioner Prasad was previously Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India, Washington from 2000 to 2004 and was also formerly the Joint Secretary for Americas Division for five years in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.Prasad joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1974 and has represented India in various capacities in Germany, UN-New York, Netherlands, Nepal, Burma and Botswana.He has also worked in the Office of Prime Minister, where he was closely involved with India’s economic liberalization and structural reform program.Sri Lanka is expected to grant its agrement to the appointment.
