Bomb blast at Modara

Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara says an explosion has occurred at Vorse Lane in Modara. The Modara police said the blast occurred when a suspicious house was about to be checked at around 6.00 am this morning. The police said one person has been injured in the incident. Modera Police are conducting further investigations.

Meanwhile OIC of Modara Police Prasad Siriwardena says the blast in Modara this morning occurred when the suicide bomber at the house being checked under suspicion in Ibbagewatta Modara exploded the bomb. Seven persons were injured in the blast. The house was checked on information gained from two LTTE suspects arrested yesterday. The bomber exploded the bomb when he was being arrested by the police. Dr. Hector Weerasinghe said that three policemen are among those injured.
