Minister Bandula Gunawardena says changes in prices of gas in the world market have a direct impact on gas price revisions in Sri Lanka.

These price rates are determined according to the Aramco Gas price index in Saudi Arabia.  The Supreme Court permitted the consumers protection authority to prepare a price formula of gas to be in par with this price index. According to this formula, revisions to gas prices are made 6 times a year.
It is the consumer’s protection authority that determines the prices of gas considering requests made by the gas companies.  According to latest revisions, a domestic cylinder of Shell gas is priced at 1749 rupees and a domestic cylinder of Laugf Gas at 1831 rupees.  This information was revealed at a media briefing held at the ministry of trade this afternoon.
