Humanitarian Program by the Army
A medical clinic was conducted on March 09 for the benefit of the civilian population living in Vidiththapalai, Tharusikulam, Ketpeli, Palavi, Ushan and Vellalathokkai, the Grama Niladhari divisions nos. 1332 - 1337 in the area controlled by the detachment hqrs 525 of the Brigade 35 under the guidance of Major General G.A. Chandrasiri, Commander Jaffna.
The medical clinic was ceremonially started by the distinguished guests Divisional Commander 525 representing brigade Commander 55 at Ketpeli Primary School. The religious rituals were performed by the head priest of the Murugan Kovil in Ushan, Parma Gupta. Mrs. Yoganathan the Principal of the Kodivel Primary School, Mr. Kandasami, President of the Fishermen's Society and Grama Niladhari of Ketpeli and Vidathkeli extended their cooperation.
Three doctors of the Army medical corps treated over 500 patients for various aliments. After examining the patients, drugs were provided. Packets of meals and cool drinks were also distributed among the patients.
The patients were from poor families living in remote villages and they cannot afford to seek medical treatment in towns. Children of these poor families are malnourished and suffer from respiratory ailments and skin diseases due to vitamin deficiency. Majority of them have not been vaccinated. All the visiting patients and the members of their families paid tribute to be army.
This is yet another humanitarian project conducted by the Security Forces for the welfare of the civilian population especially the poor.
