President opens the new flyover

The first phase of the new flyover at Kelaniya  was declared open today by Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapakse.
The Kelaniya flyover, the first of 222 bridges to be constructed countrywide was declared opened for traffic this morning.

The length of the Kelaniya flyover is 325 meters. Two lanes have been constructed under the first phase of the project. Construction of this Flyover was completed in a record period of 60 days.

The second phase of the project is due to commence next month for constructing additional two lanes. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs. 2.1 billion.

Over 75,000 vehicles travel along Colombo-Kandy main road every day and the flyover built The Kelaniya flyover across the Peliyagoda railway crossing is expected to ease the traffic congestion.
