LTTE cannot achieve their demands and goals by means of violations and terrorism

LTTE cannot achieve their demands and goals by means of violations and terrorism, said Director of Sri Lanka Peace Secretariat, Dr. Palitha Kohona. LTTE failed to gain the confidence of the public since they signed the Cease Fire Agreement in 2006. Their failure led to the present day crises. No peace and harmony will come to the country until LTTE lays down their arms, stop all illegal crimes, including arms smuggling, and enter into the democratic path and come with an open mind and sincerity to the negotiating table. The Government is ready to deal with any issue put forward by the LTTE, he said.

LTTE made use of the CFA not only to smuggle arms and to import suicidal boats but also to process the building of an air strip.

However, as a Government we cannot reject or ignore any peace talks. President Mahinda Rajapakse is very keen to achieve a lasting solution, even by providing more devolution of power, to solve the problems of Tamils in the north and east.

LTTE must realize that they cannot achieve their demands and goals by means of violations and terrorism.  We cannot solve the problems, which are prevailing for the last 25 years in just one round of talks, Dr. Kohona said.
