The United National Party is considering the possibility of bringing its National Organizer of S.B. Dissanayake to Parliament as an appointed MP, several weekend newspapers reported.

These reports indicated that several party seniors have called for Mr. Dissanayake's appointment to fill the vacancy created following the resignation of UNP parliamentarian Basheer Segudawood to contest the East PC polls.

When contacted, the UNP National Organizer said he was not aware of the truth behind the media reports.

Mr. Dissanayake, who has lost his civic rights, said there were legal impediments against his entering active politics.

He expects the verdict on an appeal to the international court in this regard in about two months time.

Once this ruling is announced, a decision can be taken about reentering politics actively, Mr. Dissanayake added.
