All political parties are running their election campaign freely –says President
President Mahinda Rajapakse says all political parties are running their election campaigns in the eastern province freely. He stresses some people being in Colombo are fabricating rumours saying violent activities are occurring in the east. The President says the TMVP and the Muslim Congress and all other main contesters for the Eastern provincial council election are launching their propaganda activities without any hindrance during a progressive review meeting of the plantation sector held at temple trees yesterday. President also said that the government is bound to strengthen the political freedom. He pointed out the opposition makes many complaints at their defeat however, the public is not ready to sacrifice their lives to terrorism again. There is vast development in the agriculture sector in the east. The President added that although the whole world is now facing a food crisis, Sri Lanka will not be affected. The President also requested the public to dedicate every and each piece of land to increase the local agricultural productivity.
He pledges to safe guard the Mother land as a unitary states as entrusted to him by the people. The government will never give in to terrorism. At a ceremony held in Temple Trees the President assures not to betray the country in any circumstance. The three forces are fighting amidst enormous difficulties for the security of the mother land. The president appealed narrow minded politicians not to attempt to gain petty political advantages at this juncture. The LTTE wants to arouse communal disturbances through various atrocities. The heroic forces are steadily marching forward defeating the terrorists. Therefore the people in the South should act in responsible manner.
The Government sole aim is to liberate the Northern Province from the grip of the LTTE as well. The people of the Eastern province are now entertaining democratic freedom by preparing for the eastern provincial council. The president expresses his confidence that the people in the north will soon attain the political freedom. Meanwhile, some people spread rumours saying and says there are violence activities occurring in the East and the opposition leaders accuses the government over the helicopter issue. The President said no Opposition leader had requested for a government helicopter for election campaign earlier. The President also said the opposition leader had neglected his invitation to meet Iranian president officially as the opposition leader of the country.
