Ministry of Health says the programme to register private hospitals and laboratories is successfully underway. Over six thousand such institutions have been registered under the programme so far.

Private hospitals and medilabs will be given a government approved certificate after an extensive investigation. Director of Private Health Services Dr. Amal Harsha De Silva says nearly 150 institutions have been rejected registration since they have not achieved required standards in service.

The institutions have been given a deadline to enhance the respective services up to government recommended standards. The registered private medical institutions will be given tax concessions to import relevant medical equipments and apparatus.

The government is also to sponsor relevant medical trainings for the staff of these institutions
