15 terrorists killed yesterday's clashes in Wanni and Jaffna

Finalized military reports received from Wanni and Jaffna theatres of battle on yesterday's (June 1) operations indicate that 15 terrorists were killed and at least 11 others wounded. Further, 29 others were reportedly killed or wounded during the clashes occurred in the Muhamalai, Mannar, Vavuniya and Welioya warfronts. One soldier was also killed and another received injuries.

In the Jaffna theatre of battle, clashes were reported from Muhamalai and Nagarkovil defences. Troops attacked a terror bunker located in the Nagarkovil area last night and claimed at least 2 terrorist were either killed or wounded. Meanwhile, troops deployed at the Muhamalai defence reported to have gunned down one LTTE cadre on the same day morning.

On the Vavuniya front, troops confronted with the LTTE terrorists in the Vedamakilam, Periyamadhu, Mundumurippu and Palaimoddai areas from morning to evening. 10 terrorists were killed and 2 others wounded during these clashes. Also, one soldier was killed in a confrontation occurred Palaimodai last evening while another suffered injuries due to an explosion of an anti personnel mine (AP) at Kalikowilmodu last afternoon.

Meanwhile, troops attacked an LTTE post at Parappakandal area on the Mannar front in the midnight yesterday and said at least 3 terrorists were either killed or wounded. Troops suffered no casualties in the incident. Meanwhile , troops engaged in clearing operations in the same general area removed 12 AP mines during the day.

The main thrust of the battle remained on the Welioya front as troops moving in the Mulaithiuvu jungles had  daylong clashes in the North of Kiriibbamwewa , and Kokkuthuduvai areas . Troops reported that 2 LTTE cadres were killed and at least 6 others were wounded during these incidents. Also, 20 others were believed to have died or suffered injuries during these clashes. Troops suffered no casualties.

Meanwhile , troops engaged in clearing operations in the area removed 67 AP mines and one booby trap.
