Sri Lanka honours past distinguished politicians

Sri Lanka parliament today honored seven distinguished politicians in the recent history by unveiling their portraits in the parliament building in a special ceremony.

Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka unveiled the portraits of Dr. C.W.W. Kannangara, A.E. Gunasinghe, Dr. S.A. Wickramasinghe, G.G. Ponnambalam, Dr. N.M. Perera, Phillip Gunawardena, and Dr. T.B. Jayah.

Relatives of the honoured leaders, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and newly appointed Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunawardena also participated in the ceremony. Addressing the large audience the Speaker of Sri Lanka parliament W.J.M.Lokubandara said that these leaders, although subscribing to different ideologies, worked tirelessly and selflessly for the freedom of the country.
