SB in ploy to prove his civic rights

image      The national organizer of the United National Party S.B. Dissanayake says he has reached agreement with the party leadership to use a recent court verdict and prove that his civic rights have not been suspended.  According to the accord, UNP's K.N. Choksy would relinquish his national list appointment, and Mr. Dissanayake nominated to fill the vacancy thus created. The UNP national organizer said  that once he took oaths, he would make a speech and resign from Parliament, paving the way for his predecessor to take up the appointment once again. In the event the Elections Commissioner objected to his name being gazetted as an appointed MP, Mr. Dissanayake said, he would seek redress in court. UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is presently discussing the move with Mr. Choksy. Speaking further, Mr. Dissanayake said the attempt to executive this move when SLMC's Hassan Ali was proposed to be appointed on the UNP's national list, had failed. He also said that he only intends to prove that his civic rights have not been suspended, and that there are no hopes to remain as a parliamentarian.
