Explosives and destructive materials recovered

The police have captured a suspect and a large haul of communication equipment including 150 numbers of walkie talkies, last week when the contraband was being transported from Chillaw to Wattala, said Deputy Inspector General Jayantha Wickramaratne.

The DIG was addressing the Press Conference on security situation at the MCNS yesterday.

On information from the suspect, a house at Ja-Ela was searched and a number of prohibited articles were recovered. A Canadian citizen who was present there at that time also was taken into custody.

 Further, 50 kg of C-4 explosives were recovered from a house at Negombo. 13 suspects have been arrested so far in this connection. The DIG said, that by the recovery of the above items, at least one would be suicide attack has been averted in Colombo.
